- During this time, you'd be leading complex incident investigations, developing new safety procedures, mentoring junior staff, and acting as the primary H&S subject matter expert for a major country or business line. You'd also be honing your influencing skills and starting to manage small H&S projects.
You're ready to move on when
- Successfully led 3+ complex H&S projects from conception to completion.
- Consistently received positive feedback from senior stakeholders on your ability to influence and advise.
- Demonstrated strong mentorship skills by successfully developing at least one junior H&S professional.
- Taken on informal leadership roles within regional H&S committees or working groups.
- Developed a clear understanding of regional H&S budget management and resource allocation.

Lead H&S Business Partner (L4) to Manager (L5)
2-4 years as a Lead Business PartnerSkills to master
- As a Lead H&S Business Partner, you'd be managing a regional programme (e.g., Contractor Safety), influencing stakeholders without direct authority, designing H&S components of new building projects, and analysing portfolio-wide trends. You'd be very comfortable with strategic H&S planning and execution.
You're ready to move on when
- Successfully managed a significant regional H&S programme with demonstrable positive impact.
- Consistently influenced senior stakeholders (e.g., VPs, peer leads) to adopt H&S best practices.
- Demonstrated strong analytical skills by identifying and addressing portfolio-wide H&S trends.
- Acted as a key H&S representative on major cross-functional projects.
- Proven ability to operate autonomously and make sound H&S decisions within your domain.

External Hire (Experienced H&S Manager)
Immediate (with relevant experience)Skills to master
- You'd bring 10-15 years of H&S experience, including 5+ years in a managerial role, preferably within Real Estate, Facilities Management, or a similar multi-site international environment. You'd already have a proven track record of leading teams, managing budgets, and setting H&S strategy for a significant operational area.
You're ready to move on when
- Demonstrable experience managing a team of H&S professionals.
- Proven track record of P&L responsibility for a significant H&S budget.
- Experience in developing and implementing H&S strategies across multiple international jurisdictions.
- Strong leadership and influencing skills, with clear examples of driving cultural change.
- Professional H&S qualifications and memberships already in place.
