Because here is the thing we know, really know, from neuroscience and cognitive
psychology and four centuries of teaching practice: there is no such thing as an
average brain. How much two people can hold in mind at once varies widely, and both of
them would call themselves ordinary. One in five of us is neurodivergent. Some of us learn best in the
morning, some need to draw it, some need to argue with you, some need to be left alone
with a book. That variation isn’t a problem to be smoothed away. It’s the actual nature
of the thing.
And yet for the better part of two centuries, everything built to teach us, from the
classroom to the corporate LMS, has been designed for a single imaginary learner at a
single pace, then quietly blamed real people for failing to be average.
We built Zavmo to end that.
What we believe
We’ve known how to teach brilliantly for forty years. Now everyone can have it.
Forty years ago, an educational psychologist named Benjamin Bloom proved that
one-to-one tutoring makes an average learner perform in the top few per cent. He called
it the two-sigma problem, and asked whether we could ever give everyone what only the
wealthy could afford. His paper has been cited thousands of times. The system changed
not at all, because no single teacher can meet thirty different brains in the thirty
different ways each one needs to be met. For the first time in human history, that’s no
longer true.
Zavmo is built to work with the brain rather than against it: every brain, not the
imaginary average one. That takes two things held together, which almost nobody holds

Adaptive pacing. Immediate, specific feedback. Spaced retrieval, because forgetting isn’t the enemy of learning but its precondition. Emotional safety, because no learning happens in fear. Challenge calibrated to be productive, not crushing. And neurodiversity designed in at the centre, not bolted on in an appendix. Designing for the edges makes it better for everyone.
Learning technology and data science
The science above has been gathering dust in academic journals for decades. What’s new is that AI, used honestly, can finally deliver the equivalent of expert one-to-one tutoring at the cost of a software interaction. We do the hard engineering that makes that real, and we prove what we’re doing with evidence, not vibes.
We call this discipline neurogogy: the science
and practice of designing learning systems that honour how individual human brains
actually build capability, and can show their work.

The opening diagnostic doesn’t end with a score. It ends with a profile: a picture of
who you are as a learner, reflected back so you recognise yourself in it. From there the
journey is laid out in plain, human stages, so you always know where you are and what
comes next. And the examples are yours: if you’re into something, that’s where the
analogy comes from. The idea meets you on ground you already know.
When you get something wrong, nothing punishes you. Zavmo does what a good teacher does.
It answers with warmth and a gentle nudge back onto the path, not a locked door. Try to
skip a step and it doesn’t just block you; it redirects you, kindly. And it keeps you
moving, noticing your progress and marking it, so momentum builds instead of draining
away.
That’s the whole point. Learning happens when you feel safe enough to be wrong and seen
enough to stay.

Most of the first wave of AI in education is, to be blunt, a search engine in a warm
tone of voice, measuring completion rates that prove nothing except that someone
learned to click “next.” We hold ourselves to a harder standard. Every interaction in

Who we are
Zavmo is built by Growth Engineering, a learning company that has
spent years helping organisations train their people. Now we’re bringing that
directly to you.
We’ve spent the better part of three decades in the trenches of learning: building
companies, winning awards, briefing ministers and regulators, and being quietly angrier
every year that we keep wasting the most valuable resource on the planet: human
potential. We’re learning scientists and engineers, but we’re also parents, and people
whose own brains never quite fit the shape we were handed. This work isn’t theoretical
for us.
Every child told they’re “not a maths person.” Every neurodivergent adult who spent years
believing they were lazy or scattered or thick. Every learner clicking through a slide
deck, pretending to absorb it. That’s a loss we’ve decided to stop accepting.
