5-8 years as Programme Manager, then 3-5 years as Head of SustainabilitySkills to master
- Deepening expertise in a specific ESG domain (e.g., climate risk, supply chain sustainability), managing complex cross-functional projects, and building strong internal stakeholder relationships.
You're ready to move on when
- Successfully managed a multi-year, strategic ESG programme from conception to delivery.
- Demonstrated ability to manage cross-functional teams and secure buy-in from diverse stakeholders.
- Developed a reputation as a subject matter expert in a critical ESG area.
- Proactively identified and mitigated significant ESG risks within their programme scope.

Senior Consultant (ESG/Sustainability) at a Big Four or specialist firm
8-12 years in consulting, with significant client leadership experienceSkills to master
- Developing deep expertise across multiple industries, managing client relationships at a senior level, project management of large-scale sustainability transformations, and business development.
You're ready to move on when
- Successfully led multiple complex ESG consulting engagements for large corporate clients.
- Demonstrated ability to advise C-suite executives on sustainability strategy and implementation.
- Proven track record of building and managing high-performing consulting teams.
- Strong understanding of commercial drivers and how sustainability creates business value.
