5-8 years in L&D, with 2-3 years at a senior individual contributor level.Skills to master
- Mastering end-to-end programme design and delivery, leading complex workstreams, mentoring junior colleagues, and demonstrating early leadership potential by driving projects to successful completion. You'd be making recommendations to leadership and owning significant pieces of work.
You're ready to move on when
- You're regularly leading multi-part learning programmes, not just single modules.
- You're the go-to person for complex instructional design challenges.
- You've successfully mentored 1-2 junior team members.
- You're proactively identifying needs and proposing solutions, not just executing requests.
- You've presented to department heads and influenced their decisions on learning initiatives.

Lead / Principal Instructional Designer
8-12 years in L&D, with 3-5 years as a lead or principal designer.Skills to master
- Architecting entire learning ecosystems for a business function, acting as a subject matter expert on learning science, and influencing at a broader level. You'd be defining standards and best practices for others.
You're ready to move on when
- You've designed comprehensive learning curricula for entire business functions.
- You're recognised as an internal expert in learning science and instructional design.
- You're regularly consulted by senior leaders on complex talent development challenges.
- You've successfully managed projects with significant budgets and multiple stakeholders.
- You're comfortable challenging assumptions and proposing innovative learning solutions.

HR Business Partner (with L&D focus)
8-12 years in HR, with a strong focus on talent development and organisational effectiveness.Skills to master
- Deep business acumen, strong relationship management with senior leaders, and an understanding of the full HR lifecycle. You'd be translating business strategy into people initiatives, including learning.
You're ready to move on when
- You've partnered with business leaders to identify and address talent gaps.
- You're experienced in organisational design and change management.
- You've influenced people strategy at a departmental level.
- You have a solid understanding of how L&D contributes to broader HR goals.
- You're comfortable with data analysis to inform people decisions.
