The pathway
How you actually get there, here
How you become one varies far more by country than what one does. This is the UK route. Most people take one of these ways in; the right one depends on where you're starting from.
- 1
From Senior Real Estate Marketing Specialist (L3)
3-5 years as an L3Skills to master
- At L3, you'd have mastered owning complete workstreams and mentoring. To get to Lead, you need to show you can design *entire systems*, influence broader strategy, and guide a small team. Think about building a new marketing funnel from scratch, not just executing one part of it.
You're ready to move on when
- You're consistently asked for your strategic input on complex campaigns, not just your execution skills.
- You've successfully designed and implemented a new, measurable marketing process or programme that significantly improved efficiency or results.
- You're already informally guiding or mentoring junior team members, and they're showing tangible improvement under your influence.
- You can confidently present and defend complex marketing plans to senior leadership, anticipating their questions and providing data-backed answers.
- 2
From Digital Marketing Manager (Non-Real Estate)
4-6 years in a similar strategic digital marketing roleSkills to master
- You'll need to quickly get up to speed on the unique nuances of real estate marketing—compliance, agent psychology, property lifecycle. Your digital strategy skills will transfer, but you'll need to specialise. Focus on understanding 'farming a geo' and 'CMA packaging' deeply.
You're ready to move on when
- You've successfully managed multi-channel digital campaigns with significant budgets and clear ROI.
- You can demonstrate a rapid learning curve for new industry specifics and regulatory environments.
- You've led small teams or significant projects, showcasing your ability to influence and direct.
- You've actively sought out learning opportunities in real estate marketing, perhaps through online courses or industry events.
