- Proving you can independently own entire change workstreams, successfully manage stakeholder expectations, and consistently deliver high-quality outputs. You'll need to show you can handle more complexity and ambiguity.
You're ready to move on when
- Consistently delivering on change workstream objectives without significant supervision.
- Proactively identifying and addressing potential resistance points.
- Receiving positive feedback from project managers and business stakeholders on your impact.
- Taking initiative to mentor new joiners or less experienced team members.

From Project Manager (with Change Focus)
5-7 years in project managementSkills to master
- Developing a deeper specialisation in the 'people' side of projects, moving beyond just task management. This means mastering stakeholder empathy, communications strategy, and resistance management. You'll need to shift from 'what' gets done to 'how' people adapt.
You're ready to move on when
- Demonstrating a strong interest and aptitude for the human aspects of project delivery.
- Successfully leading communication and training workstreams within projects.
- Being the go-to person for stakeholder engagement challenges on your projects.
- Seeking out formal change management training or certifications.

From HR Business Partner / Organisational Development Specialist
5-8 years in HR/ODSkills to master
- Translating broad HR/OD principles into specific, actionable change management plans for large-scale projects. This involves getting comfortable with project delivery cycles, technical implementations, and data-driven adoption metrics. You'll need to move from 'people strategy' to 'people execution for change'.
You're ready to move on when
- Having a track record of supporting significant organisational restructures or system implementations from a people perspective.
- Strong ability to influence and coach senior leaders on people impacts.
- A keen interest in the practical application of change methodologies to large-scale initiatives.
- Demonstrating an understanding of how technology impacts human behaviour in the workplace.
