The pathway
How you actually get there, here
How you become one varies far more by country than what one does. This is the UK route. Most people take one of these ways in; the right one depends on where you're starting from.
- 1

2-3 years as an Ethics Training SpecialistSkills to master
- You'd need to have truly mastered end-to-end module development, taken ownership of specific training areas, and shown a knack for problem-solving and stakeholder engagement. Basically, you've proven you can deliver reliably and independently.
You're ready to move on when
- Consistently delivering high-quality training modules on time and with minimal supervision.
- Proactively identifying training needs and proposing solutions, rather than just reacting.
- Receiving positive feedback from stakeholders on your collaboration and communication skills.
- Starting to informally mentor or guide newer team members.
- 2

- You'd bring strong instructional design and e-learning development skills. The key here would be quickly getting up to speed on the nuances of compliance regulations, ethical frameworks, and how to handle sensitive subject matter with discretion and empathy. You'd need to show us you can translate your L&D expertise into our specific context.
You're ready to move on when
- A portfolio of diverse e-learning projects, demonstrating advanced authoring tool skills.
- Experience working with subject matter experts to extract complex information.
- A clear understanding of adult learning principles and evaluation methodologies.
- Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and apply new domain-specific knowledge.
- 3
Compliance Officer with L&D Interest
4-6 years as a Compliance Officer, plus demonstrable interest/experience in training.Skills to master
- You'd already have the deep compliance knowledge and regulatory understanding. You'd need to develop strong instructional design skills, learn our authoring tools, and understand how to structure learning experiences for maximum impact. It's about shifting from 'knowing the rules' to 'teaching the rules effectively'.
You're ready to move on when
- Deep knowledge of relevant regulations and internal policies.
- Experience identifying compliance risks and gaps.
- A genuine passion for teaching and developing others.
- Evidence of having delivered informal training or presentations within a compliance context.
