Cost Control Manager / Finance Manager (Large Business Unit)
You'd typically spend 3-5 years in a similar L5 role, leading a significant team and managing a substantial P&L for a major business unit or multiple sites.Skills to master
- Deep expertise in enterprise cost management, strategic planning, team leadership (including managers), and influencing senior operational stakeholders. You'd have already led significant cost reduction initiatives.
You're ready to move on when
- Consistently exceeded financial targets for your previous business unit.
- Successfully developed and promoted at least 2-3 direct reports into more senior roles.
- Led a major financial transformation project (e.g., ERP implementation, new costing methodology).
- Regularly sought out by your COO/CFO for strategic input beyond your immediate remit.

Head of Finance (Smaller Subsidiary / Business Unit)
Around 3-4 years as the lead finance person for a smaller, perhaps £50M-£100M, business unit, giving you full P&L accountability and broader exposure.Skills to master
- Holistic P&L management, commercial finance exposure, legal and tax considerations for a full entity, and managing all finance functions (not just operations).
You're ready to move on when
- Successfully managed all finance aspects of a smaller entity, demonstrating broad financial leadership.
- Developed strong relationships with a CEO/MD of a subsidiary.
- Navigated complex financial challenges unique to a standalone business unit.

Senior Finance Business Partner (Global Operations)
Approximately 4-6 years as a strategic finance partner to a global operations leader, focusing on complex cross-geography challenges.Skills to master
- Exceptional stakeholder management across different cultures, deep understanding of global supply chain finance, and the ability to influence without direct authority. You'd be adept at navigating international complexities.
