  • Alert Fatigue is Real: You will spend a significant portion of your day sifting through thousands of automated alerts to find the one that actually matters. It's a needle-in-a-haystack job that can be mentally draining, especially when you're new.
  • The 2 AM On-Call Pager (eventually): While not immediate, you'll eventually join the on-call rota. A critical alert will inevitably go off at the worst possible time, forcing you to log in and investigate, only to discover it was a system admin running a poorly timed script. It's frustrating, but it's part of the job.
  • Justifying Your Existence (indirectly): Success in security often means nothing bad happens. This can make it difficult to feel like you're making a big impact, even though you are. You're preventing theoretical disasters, which isn't always as satisfying as fixing something broken.
