How you become one varies far more by country than what one does. This is the UK route. Most people take one of these ways in; the right one depends on where you're starting from.

Internal Promotion (from VP, Private Wealth)
3-5 years as a high-performing Vice President, Private Wealth (our L4).Skills to master
- Demonstrating consistent NNA growth, successfully leading a small team or significant project, contributing to local office strategy, and showing readiness for P&L accountability.
You're ready to move on when
- Consistently exceeding individual and team NNA targets for several years.
- Successfully mentored 2-3 junior advisors who have gone on to achieve their own targets.
- Actively participated in strategic planning for your current office or region.
- Developed a strong network of COIs and external partnerships.
- Proactively taken on leadership responsibilities beyond your core role.

External Hire (from a competing wealth management firm)
Typically 12-16 years of overall experience, with at least 5-8 years in a comparable leadership role at another firm.Skills to master
- Proven track record of leading a successful sales team, managing a P&L, and driving significant AUM growth in a similar high-net-worth client segment. Experience with a book of business that aligns with our client profile is a plus.
You're ready to move on when
- Clear evidence of managing a team that consistently hit or exceeded sales/AUM targets.
- Demonstrable experience with P&L responsibility and strategic decision-making.
- Strong network of industry contacts and potential recruits.
- Ability to articulate a clear vision for growth and team development.
- Excellent cultural fit and alignment with our firm's values.
