Roughly 5-7 years in design, with a strong focus on user research.Skills to master
- Deepening research methodology expertise, moving beyond evaluative testing to generative research, and developing strong data synthesis and storytelling skills.
You're ready to move on when
- Led the research component for multiple design projects, not just participated.
- Can articulate the 'why' behind design decisions using robust research evidence.
- Comfortable designing and running qualitative studies (interviews, ethnography) as well as usability tests.
- Has a portfolio demonstrating strong research outputs alongside design work.

From Data Analyst / Data Scientist (with Qualitative Focus)
Around 5-7 years in data analysis, with a keen interest in human behaviour.Skills to master
- Developing strong qualitative research skills (interviewing, observation, thematic analysis), understanding research ethics, and translating quantitative findings into human-centred narratives.
You're ready to move on when
- Demonstrated ability to go beyond numbers to understand user motivations and context.
- Has experience with survey design and analysis, including open-ended questions.
- Actively sought out opportunities to conduct user interviews or contextual inquiries.
- Can clearly communicate complex data insights to non-technical audiences.
