You're ready to move on when
- Successfully mentored junior technicians and led complex multi-trade jobs.
- Consistently delivered projects on time and within budget (even small ones).
- Proactively identified and resolved recurring technical issues through RCA.
- Demonstrated strong communication with various stakeholders, including tenants and management.

From Assistant Facilities Manager (smaller site)
3-5 years in an Assistant role, looking for a step up to full management.Skills to master
- Broader understanding of facilities operations (not just maintenance), P&L responsibility, strategic planning, and vendor contract negotiation.
You're ready to move on when
- Managed a small facilities budget (e.g., £100K-£200K) effectively.
- Oversaw all aspects of facilities operations for a smaller commercial property.
- Successfully implemented process improvements that led to cost savings or efficiency gains.
- Proven ability to manage external contractors and ensure service delivery.

8-12 years in a specialist trade (e.g., HVAC, Electrical) with 3-5 years supervising teams.Skills to master
- Broader facilities knowledge beyond their specialism, internal stakeholder management, CMMS administration, and understanding of full building lifecycle.

- Managed teams of specialist technicians on large projects or contracts.
