2-3 yearsSkills to master
- Deep understanding of freight processes, customs documentation, carrier communication, and problem-solving for transit issues. You'd have been focused more on the 'how' of moving goods.
You're ready to move on when
- Has managed a high volume of shipping documentation for various modes of transport.
- Can effectively communicate with freight forwarders and customs brokers to resolve routine issues.
- Demonstrates strong organisational skills in managing multiple shipments simultaneously.
- Understands the impact of shipping decisions on inventory and delivery schedules.

Supply Chain Assistant / Junior Buyer
2-4 yearsSkills to master
- Supplier communication, inventory management principles, basic negotiation, and understanding the impact of purchasing on stock levels and demand planning. You'd have seen more of the 'why' behind the orders.

- Has experience communicating directly with suppliers to place orders and resolve issues.
- Understands basic inventory concepts like lead time and safety stock.
- Can analyse simple purchasing data to identify trends or potential problems.
