You're ready to move on when
- Consistently accurate data entry and timely completion of routine tasks.
- Proactively identifying and reporting hazards, not just reacting to them.
- Demonstrating initiative in suggesting improvements to procedures.
- Successfully completing a Level 3 safety qualification.

From Operational Role with Safety Responsibilities
3-5 yearsSkills to master
- Translating your practical operational safety experience into a formal safety management framework. This means understanding regulations, formal investigation techniques, and management systems. You'll need to formalise your safety knowledge.
You're ready to move on when
- Deep practical knowledge of workplace hazards and controls.
- Experience leading toolbox talks or informal safety discussions.
- A strong track record of promoting safety within your operational team.
- Completion of a Level 3 safety qualification (e.g., NEBOSH General Certificate).

From Environmental or Quality Specialist
2-4 years (with cross-training)Skills to master
- Leveraging your experience with management systems (e.g., ISO 14001, ISO 9001) and auditing, but developing specific expertise in occupational health and safety regulations, hazard identification, and incident investigation. You'll need to broaden your technical safety knowledge.
You're ready to move on when
- Strong understanding of management system principles.
- Experience with auditing and compliance in EHS or Quality.
- Demonstrated ability to learn new regulatory frameworks quickly.
- Completion of a Level 3 safety qualification focused on occupational health and safety.
