- Understanding machine operation, basic troubleshooting, data collection, following SOPs, and identifying simple process deviations. Basically, getting to grips with the shop floor.
You're ready to move on when
- Consistently identifying and reporting process issues accurately.
- Proactively suggesting minor improvements to work instructions.
- Effectively training new operators on basic tasks.
- Demonstrating a solid understanding of OEE and scrap calculations for their area.

Graduate Engineer (Manufacturing/Industrial)
2-4 yearsSkills to master
- Applying theoretical engineering knowledge to real-world manufacturing problems, project management basics, data analysis (often in a structured graduate programme), and stakeholder communication.
You're ready to move on when
- Successfully completing assigned graduate projects with measurable impact.
- Building strong working relationships with production and maintenance teams.
- Presenting data-driven insights clearly to senior engineers.
- Taking initiative to learn new manufacturing processes and technologies.

Production Supervisor (with a technical bent)
3-5 yearsSkills to master
- Deep understanding of daily production challenges, managing people, hitting targets, and a practical appreciation for process bottlenecks. You'd need to pick up more formal process improvement methodologies.
You're ready to move on when
- Consistently hitting production targets while maintaining quality.
- Effectively coaching and developing production teams.
- Identifying recurring production issues and seeking technical solutions.
- Showing a strong interest in the 'why' behind process performance, not just the 'what'.
