You're ready to move on when
- Successfully led 5+ complex, multi-functional audits independently.
- Consistently received positive feedback on mentorship from junior colleagues.
- Proactively identified and proposed improvements to existing audit processes or tools.
- Demonstrated strong analytical skills in identifying systemic root causes, not just symptoms.

From Specialist Compliance Role (e.g., Senior H&S Advisor, Quality Engineer)
5-8 years in a specialist role, plus 2-3 years in an audit-focused capacitySkills to master
- Developing formal audit methodology knowledge (e.g., ISO 19011), gaining Lead Auditor certification, understanding risk-based auditing principles, and learning to manage audit programmes.
You're ready to move on when
- Completed a recognised Lead Auditor training course and gained certification.
- Led internal audits within their specialist area, demonstrating objectivity and adherence to audit principles.
- Developed a strong understanding of management systems (e.g., ISO 9001, 14001, 45001).
- Proven ability to interpret complex regulations and apply them to operational contexts.
