- You've successfully architected and delivered at least two major, cross-team infrastructure projects.
- You're the 'go-to' person for the hardest technical problems in your current domain.
- You've formally mentored 2-3 junior engineers and helped them achieve significant growth.
- You've presented technical strategies to senior leadership and successfully gained buy-in.

5-8 years as an architectSkills to master
- Enterprise-level architectural design, experience with multi-cloud or hybrid environments, strong vendor management, and a proven ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
You're ready to move on when
- You've designed and overseen the implementation of enterprise-wide infrastructure solutions.
- You're comfortable presenting complex architectural trade-offs to non-technical executives.
- You've managed significant infrastructure budgets and driven cost-optimisation initiatives.
- You have experience leading technical teams, even if not in a formal 'manager' title.

3-6 years in a managerial roleSkills to master
- People management, performance reviews, team building, budget management, and a solid understanding of modern cloud-native infrastructure.
You're ready to move on when
- You've successfully built and led a team of 5+ engineers, including hiring and performance management.
- You've owned the operational excellence and reliability of critical production systems.
- You're comfortable with the administrative aspects of management (e.g., HR processes, reporting).
- You can demonstrate how your team's work directly contributed to business outcomes.
