Target · ≥90% FPYOut of 10 new test setups you build, 9 of them should power up and run their initial diagnostic checks without you having to spend an hour fixing a loose wire or a software glitch. It's about getting it right first time.
Proactive Troubleshooting
Identifying and attempting to diagnose issues with test equipment or DUTs before escalating them, showing an understanding of the test setup.
- You'll be the one who tries a few common fixes (e.g., checking cables, restarting software, verifying power) before calling over a senior engineer. Your test logs will show your initial diagnostic steps. When you do escalate, you'll have a clear description of the problem and what you've already tried. Engineers will often say, 'They usually have a good idea of what's going on.'
Documentation Quality
Producing clear, concise, and complete test logs, observations, and reports that are easy for engineers to understand and act upon.
- Your test reports won't need follow-up questions from engineers to understand the results. Photos will be clear and relevant. You'll use the right templates and fill them out thoroughly. Other technicians might even ask to see your reports as an example of how it should be done.
Lab Organisation & Safety
Maintaining a tidy, organised, and safe workspace, ensuring equipment is properly stored and calibrated, and safety protocols are followed.
- Your workbench won't look like a bomb site. Tools will be put back in their place. You'll know where the fire extinguisher is and how to use it. There won't be any trailing cables or unmarked hazards. When we do a safety audit, your area will consistently pass with flying colours. Other team members will comment on how organised your area is.
Collaboration & Communication
Effectively communicating test progress, issues, and findings with the team and engineers, asking clarifying questions when needed.
- You won't just dump data on an engineer's desk
- you'll give them a quick summary of what you found. You'll ask smart questions about vague test requests. You'll let the team know if a test is running late or if you've hit a snag. People will say you're easy to work with and that you keep them in the loop without needing to be chased.
