How you become one varies far more by country than what one does. This is the UK route. Most people take one of these ways in; the right one depends on where you're starting from.

From Executive Coach (L2) within Zavmo
2-3 years as an L2 coach.Skills to master
- You'll need to master coaching Director-level clients, consistently deliver strong client outcomes, and show a proactive interest in mentoring junior colleagues and contributing to programme improvements.
You're ready to move on when
- Consistently high client satisfaction scores (NPS 8.5+).
- Successful completion of 360° feedback-driven engagements with measurable behavioural shifts.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex three-way contracts independently.
- Informal mentorship of L1 coaches or new joiners.
- Proactive suggestions for improving coaching processes or resources.

External Senior Executive Coach
Direct entry, assuming 5-8 years of relevant experience.Skills to master
- You'll need to demonstrate extensive experience coaching VPs and SVPs in fast-paced, complex organisations, with a strong portfolio of client successes and advanced certifications.
You're ready to move on when
- ICF PCC or MCC credential, or equivalent.
- Certification in multiple advanced psychometric tools (e.g., Hogan, LCP).
- Experience operating within an internal coaching function or consulting to corporate clients.
- A clear understanding of how to integrate coaching with broader talent development strategies.
