You're ready to move on when
- Successfully led 5+ complex PPA negotiations with minimal supervision.
- Consistently sought out for advice by business partners on novel deal structures.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop junior team members, with visible positive impact.
- Proactively identified and implemented improvements to PPA processes or templates.

Senior Associate / Junior Partner at a leading energy law firm
12-15 years PQE (including firm experience)Skills to master
- Managing client relationships, leading deal teams, developing business, deep expertise in energy project finance and PPA documentation, delivering strategic legal advice.
You're ready to move on when
- Managed multiple PPA transactions from inception to close for various clients.
- Developed expertise in specific niche areas of energy law (e.g., offshore wind, battery storage).
- Demonstrated ability to manage junior lawyers and delegate effectively.
- Strong client-facing skills and commercial awareness developed through external practice.

Legal Manager / Head of Legal for a smaller energy developer
5-8 years in that roleSkills to master
- Managing a broader range of legal matters (not just PPAs), budget management, external counsel oversight, direct reporting to executive leadership, building a legal function from scratch.
You're ready to move on when
- Successfully built and managed a small legal team or function.
- Managed all legal aspects of a portfolio of energy projects.
- Directly advised a CEO/Board on critical legal and commercial risks.
- Demonstrated ability to handle a wide variety of legal issues beyond just PPAs.
