- Mastering the ability to direct a portfolio of projects, developing deep relationships with VPs, shaping demand for consulting work, and becoming a recognised subject matter expert in a specific domain.
You're ready to move on when
- Consistently delivering >£2M in documented P&L impact annually from your portfolio.
- Strong positive feedback from multiple VPs on your strategic influence and partnership.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop senior consultants, with at least 2-3 direct reports successfully promoted.
- Proactively identifying and securing new, high-impact consulting engagements without direct instruction.

Senior Manager / Associate Partner (External Consulting)
5-8 years in external consulting at this levelSkills to master
- Translating external client management and project delivery skills to an internal context, adapting to organisational politics, and building internal credibility. Strong focus on internal stakeholder management and long-term capability building.
You're ready to move on when
- Successfully led multiple complex client engagements with multi-million-pound budgets.
- Proven ability to manage large, diverse consulting teams and drive high performance.
- Strong track record of business development and client relationship management.
- A clear understanding of the difference between external and internal consulting dynamics.

Head of Data Science / Head of Data Engineering (Large Enterprise)
4-6 years in a Head of function roleSkills to master
- Shifting from a purely technical leadership role to a broader strategic and business-focused consulting role. This means developing stronger commercial acumen, executive influence, and change management skills beyond technical implementation.
You're ready to move on when
- Successfully built and scaled a large data science or engineering function.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver significant technical projects that drove measurable business value.
- Experience managing large technical budgets and making build vs. buy decisions.
- A clear desire to move into a more business-centric, advisory leadership role.
