- Leading complex RCA investigations, mentoring junior staff, managing specific workstreams end-to-end, and demonstrating strong technical decision-making without constant supervision. You'll also need to show you can influence others and take initiative on programme improvements.
You're ready to move on when
- You've successfully led several high-stakes environmental projects or incident responses.
- Your colleagues and managers consistently seek your technical advice.
- You've informally mentored junior staff and they've shown clear development under your guidance.
- You've proactively identified and proposed solutions for systemic compliance issues.
- You're comfortable presenting technical information to non-technical audiences.

External Hire (Environmental Manager from another industrial sector)
10-15 years of experience, with at least 5 years in a similar managerial role.Skills to master
- Demonstrated experience managing environmental compliance programmes in a complex industrial setting, strong team leadership, budget management, and a proven track record of successful regulatory engagement. You'll need to quickly get up to speed on our specific permits and operational context.
You're ready to move on when
- You've successfully managed a team of environmental professionals (5+ direct reports).
- You've held budget responsibility for environmental programmes.
- You've led responses to significant regulatory inspections or enforcement actions.
- You can articulate how you've driven continuous improvement in environmental performance.
- You have experience managing third-party contractors and analytical laboratories.
