- Board reporting, investor engagement, enterprise risk management, cross-functional executive influence, and P&L management for a significant business unit. You need to prove you can operate at a strategic, not just operational, level.
You're ready to move on when
- Successfully led a major sustainability transformation programme or achieved significant ESG targets at a business unit level.
- Consistently built strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including senior leadership.
- Demonstrated strategic foresight, anticipating regulatory changes and market shifts.
- Managed a large, multi-disciplinary team with a track record of talent development.

From Chief Compliance Officer/General Counsel (with Strong ESG Focus)
5-7 years in a CCO/GC role with a strong, demonstrable emphasis on environmental and social governance, beyond just legal risk.Skills to master
- Deep understanding of climate science and abatement technologies, operational sustainability (not just legal compliance), broader stakeholder engagement (investors, NGOs), and strategic business integration of ESG factors.
You're ready to move on when
- Successfully navigated complex regulatory environments related to ESG and advised the Board on these risks.
- Proactively integrated ESG considerations into corporate governance frameworks and internal controls.
- Demonstrated ability to translate legal/compliance requirements into actionable business strategies.

5-8 years as a Partner leading large-scale sustainability transformations for diverse, complex clients.Skills to master
- Navigating internal organisational politics (different from client consulting), building and leading a permanent in-house team (vs. project-based consulting), long-term operational ownership and accountability, and developing deep industry-specific knowledge beyond a project scope.
You're ready to move on when
- Managed multi-million-pound client engagements, delivering significant impact and value.
- Developed and implemented enterprise-wide sustainability strategies for multiple clients.
- Demonstrated strong client relationship management at the executive and board level.
