Roughly 4-6 years at L4/L5Skills to master
- Developing a portfolio-level view of change, managing multi-programme interdependencies, building and leading a team of managers, and consistently presenting to senior leadership.
You're ready to move on when
- Successfully led the change strategy for 2-3 large, complex programmes end-to-end.
- Consistently received positive feedback from C-Suite stakeholders on your strategic insights and influence.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop multiple senior change managers.
- Managed budgets of £1M+ for change programmes.

From Change Implementation Manager (L5)
Approximately 2-4 years at L5Skills to master
- Transitioning from managing a portfolio to owning the entire change capability for a business unit, including defining its strategy, talent development, and P&L accountability.
You're ready to move on when
- Successfully managed a team of 10-25 change professionals (including managers).
- Owned the change portfolio for a major business unit, with demonstrable benefits realisation.
- Consistently advised SVP-level stakeholders on change risks and opportunities.
- Proactively built and optimised change methodologies and tools for a department.

From Director-level in related functions (e.g., HR, Operations, Programme Management)
Varies significantly, but typically 3-5 years in a related Director roleSkills to master
- Deepening expertise in human-centred change methodologies, understanding the psychological aspects of transformation, and translating operational/HR strategy into actionable change plans.
You're ready to move on when
- Led large-scale organisational design or operational efficiency programmes.
- Managed significant P&L or departmental budgets (£5M+).
- Demonstrated strong people leadership and talent development skills (25+ reports).
- Proven ability to influence C-Suite decisions and manage executive stakeholders.
