You're ready to move on when
- Successfully led at least two annual carbon inventory cycles with zero major audit findings.
- Mentored and developed at least one junior analyst who has taken on increased responsibility.
- Proactively identified and resolved significant data quality issues without direct supervision.
- Presented strategic recommendations to departmental heads (e.g., Operations, Procurement) that resulted in actionable outcomes.

Climate Strategy Consultant (from external consultancy)
8-12 years in a dedicated climate/sustainability consulting roleSkills to master
- Client relationship management, project delivery for diverse clients, deep expertise in various industry decarbonisation pathways, and strong presentation skills. You'll need to demonstrate how your consulting experience translates to driving internal change.
You're ready to move on when
- Managed and delivered complex climate strategy projects for multiple corporate clients.
- Developed and presented decarbonisation roadmaps or MACC models for client organisations.
- Proven ability to translate technical climate data into actionable business recommendations.

8-12 years in a broader sustainability role, with a significant portion focused on carbonSkills to master
- Deep dive into GHG Protocol specificities, advanced data modelling, and a focus on driving *emissions reduction* rather than just broad ESG. You'll need to specialise your general sustainability knowledge.
You're ready to move on when
- Directly managed an organisation's carbon footprint and reporting for several years.
- Implemented specific carbon reduction initiatives (e.g., energy efficiency, renewables).
- Demonstrated strong analytical skills in a sustainability context.
- Can articulate how their experience directly maps to the core responsibilities of a Lead Carbon Strategist.
