3What this role really is

This job involves helping new regions or acquisitions fit into wider operations. You check that data and processes line up when systems and ways of working merge across countries.

4What you'd actually use

The tools this job runs on, and how well you'd need to know each one.

Microsoft Excel Intermediate

You'll use VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, PivotTables, and complex formulas daily. You'll be cleaning and structuring data sets from different regional sources, often preparing them for Power BI.

You'll connect to clean data sources (usually Excel or SharePoint) and build pre-defined dashboards and reports. You won't be designing from scratch, but you'll be able to update and maintain existing ones.

Asana User

You'll manage your personal tasks, update project statuses, and collaborate within existing project structures. You'll be a key user for tracking your workstream's progress.

SAP S/4HANA Basic

You'll navigate modules (like FI/CO, SD) to extract standard reports and verify data points. You're not an expert, but you can find what you need and understand the basics of the system.

You'll run pre-built reports on regional pipelines, accounts, and activities. You can perform basic data quality checks and understand the structure of the CRM.

You'll document meeting minutes, update project pages, and contribute to the knowledge base. This is where we keep all our integration documentation, so keeping it tidy is key.

5What you get to decide, and how that grows

Power in a job isn't your title. It's what you're allowed to decide. Here's how it grows as you move up.

The choiceComing in Where you are nowThe step above
Data Source Selection for Standard Reports Under guidance, uses pre-defined sources. Independently selects appropriate data sources from approved list for routine reports; consults manager for new or complex sources. Defines and approves new data sources for workstreams; consults on data governance strategy.
Process Documentation Approach Follows existing templates and instructions. Chooses appropriate documentation method (e.g., BPMN, flowcharts) for a given 'as-is' process; proposes minor template improvements. Designs and implements new documentation standards and templates for complex processes; reviews junior team's work.
Escalation of Project Risks Flags all perceived risks to supervisor immediately. Identifies and assesses minor risks, proposes initial mitigation to manager; escalates major risks immediately. Assesses and prioritises project risks, develops mitigation plans, and escalates only high-impact or unresolvable issues to leadership.
Communication with Regional Teams Drafts emails for manager review; participates in meetings. Independently communicates routine requests and updates to regional teams; drafts sensitive communications for manager review. Leads communication strategy for workstreams; represents integration team in regional meetings; coaches junior staff on communication.

6How you'll be judged

The scoreboard, and what is not on it. The hard targets, how often each is actually looked at, and the quiet signals that never reach a dashboard.

Data Accuracy
The percentage of data points you're responsible for (e.g., in project trackers, reports) that are correct and consistent.
Target · >99% accuracy

If you're tracking 500 data points for a regional integration, we'd expect fewer than 5 errors. For instance, correctly mapping 498 out of 500 regional product codes to our global standard.

On-Time Delivery of Recurring Reports
Making sure all your regular reports, like the weekly RAG status or monthly data summaries, land in people's inboxes exactly when they're expected.
Target · 100% of recurring reports delivered by deadline

Your weekly RAG status update for the German market integration needs to be sent by Tuesday 10:00 AM. Hitting that target every week, even when data's a bit messy, counts here.

Issue Resolution Time (Data Discrepancies)
How quickly you can identify, investigate, and propose solutions for data inconsistencies or reporting errors that pop up.
Target · 24-48 hours for initial investigation and proposed solution

If the Finance team flags a discrepancy in regional revenue figures from SAP on Monday morning, you'd be expected to have investigated the root cause and suggested a fix or next steps by Wednesday morning at the latest.

Asana Project Plan Updates
Keeping the project management tool (Asana) up-to-date with current statuses, tasks, and any new dependencies for your assigned workstreams.
Target · Daily updates for active tasks; weekly review of overall workstream status

Ensuring that the 'IT System Migration' workstream in Asana accurately reflects that the 'Data Mapping' sub-task is 75% complete, not 50%, and any blockers are clearly noted for the next SteerCo.

Stakeholder Feedback & Responsiveness
How well you communicate with regional teams and internal stakeholders, and how quickly and helpfully you respond to their queries or requests.
  • Positive comments from regional contacts and Workstream Leads (e.g., 'always clear and helpful', 'quick to respond'). You're seen as a reliable point of contact, not someone they have to chase. Your manager will get informal feedback.
Documentation Quality & Clarity
The standard of your process maps, meeting notes, and knowledge base updates – are they easy to understand, comprehensive, and actually useful for others?
  • Other team members can easily follow your 'as-is' process maps or use your meeting summaries without needing extra clarification. Your Confluence pages are well-structured and up-to-date. You'll get feedback during peer reviews or when someone picks up your work.
Proactive Problem Identification
Your ability to spot potential issues or risks in data, processes, or project timelines before they escalate into bigger problems.
  • You're flagging a potential data mismatch between systems before anyone else notices it, or pointing out a looming deadline clash with a regional holiday. Your manager will note instances where you've saved the team time or prevented an error.
Contribution to Process Improvement
Suggesting and sometimes even implementing small improvements to how we do things, especially around data collection or reporting.
  • You propose a simpler way to collect regional sales data that cuts down on manual effort, or you create a new Excel template that makes a recurring report faster to build. This isn't about big strategic shifts, but making daily life a bit easier.

7Would you like it

Both sides. What people enjoy, and what grinds them down.

What people enjoy
Bringing Order to Chaos

You genuinely enjoy taking messy, inconsistent data or fragmented regional processes and turning them into something clean, standardised, and easy to understand. It's satisfying to see the 'before' and 'after'.

You'll spend a day wrestling with five different regional sales reports, each in a different format, and by the end of it, you'll have one clean, harmonised dataset that everyone can actually use.

Learning About Global Business

You're keen to understand how different countries operate, how cultural nuances affect business, and the complexities of international operations. Every new region is a new puzzle to solve.

You'll be working with teams in Germany, Japan, and Brazil in the same week, learning about their local market quirks and how they impact our integration plans.

Making a Tangible Impact

You want to see your work directly contribute to the company's growth and efficiency. You're not just doing tasks; you're building the foundations for our international success.

Seeing a new regional entity successfully migrate onto our global ERP system, knowing your data clean-up and process mapping work made that possible, is a real win.

What frustrates people
  • Being the 'Data Janitor': You'll spend a fair chunk of your time cleaning, validating, and reformatting inconsistent data from regional teams instead of doing fancy analysis. It's not glamorous, but it's absolutely essential.
  • The 'HQ vs. Region' Squeeze: Expect to be caught in the middle. Headquarters demands standardisation, but regional leaders fiercely protect their autonomy and local processes. You're often the one trying to bridge that gap.
  • Chasing Ghosts: You'll waste hours trying to get status updates from workstream leads spread across three different time zones, especially the night before a major SteerCo presentation. It's a constant battle with time differences.
  • Process for Process's Sake: You might spend weeks creating a beautiful 'to-be' process map, only to see it get ignored because the local 'way we've always done it' is too culturally entrenched to change. That can be a bit disheartening.
  • The Time Zone Nightmare: Truth is, scheduling a one-hour meeting that doesn't require someone in California, London, or Singapore to join at a ridiculous hour is often impossible. Expect some early starts or late finishes.
What this role does not give you
  • Complete autonomy over strategic direction – you'll propose, but not set, the big picture.
  • A quiet, predictable 9-to-5 working day – integrations are often reactive and demand flexibility.
  • A role where you only deal with clean, perfectly structured data – messy data is the norm here.
  • A role where you're always in the spotlight – much of your crucial work happens behind the scenes.

8Who you work with

This role directly impacts the efficiency and success of our international expansion efforts. By ensuring data accuracy and process alignment, you help us avoid operational friction, speed up integration timelines, and make sure we can actually realise the benefits of bringing new regions or businesses into the company. Get it right, and we grow smoothly. Get it wrong, and we're stuck in costly clean-up mode.

Inside the business
  • Regional Integration Manager
  • Workstream Leads (IT, HR, Finance)
  • Regional Business Unit Heads
  • Data & Analytics Team
Outside the business
  • External Vendors (occasionally for data clean-up)
  • Acquired Company Teams

9What you need before you start

Not a wish list. The things you would be expected to already have.

  • At least 2-3 years of experience in a data-heavy analytical role or a project support position, ideally within a global or multi-national company.
  • Demonstrable experience using Microsoft Excel for data manipulation, analysis, and reporting (intermediate level is a must).
  • Experience working with project management tools (like Asana, Jira, or similar) to track tasks and update statuses.
  • A proven ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both in writing and verbally, especially when explaining complex information to non-technical audiences.
  • A genuine curiosity about different cultures and how they impact business operations.

10What to practise next

Where the job is going, and what to do about it starting this week.

Advanced Power BI & Data Modelling

As we integrate more data sources, the complexity of our reporting will grow. You'll need to move beyond basic dashboards to build more robust, flexible models. The driver is the increasing demand for real-time, self-service insights from our integrated data.

DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) · Star Schema Design · Power Query for Advanced Transformations · Report Performance Optimisation

  • This month: Take a deeper dive into Power Query within Power BI. Try to automate a data cleaning step you currently do manually in Excel.
  • Month 2: Start learning basic DAX functions. Try to recreate one of your existing Excel formulas directly in Power BI.
  • Month 3: Experiment with building a simple Power BI report from scratch using multiple (cleaned) data sources.
  • Month 4: Look for opportunities to improve the performance of an existing report by optimising its data model.

Quick win: Identify one recurring Excel report you build. Try to replicate just one sheet of it in Power BI using Power Query to pull the data.

11Staying current once you are in

What people here do to keep up
  • Seek out opportunities to take on more complex data analysis tasks within your current role, even if it means a bit of extra effort.
  • Volunteer to help with process documentation or mapping for any internal projects – it's great practice for this role.
  • Actively participate in any cross-functional projects or initiatives to get a feel for working with different departments.
  • Read up on international business news and cultural differences – it'll give you a head start on understanding global nuances.

12The rising capability

What's rising in its place

This is where the work is heading, and the higher pay with it. Get fluent here and the shift stops being a threat and starts being your edge.

Advanced Data Storytelling

It's no longer enough to just present numbers. Our leadership and regional teams are drowning in data; they need someone who can turn that data into a compelling narrative that drives action. The driver here is information overload and the need for clearer, more impactful insights.

  • Audience-Centric Communication
  • Visualisation Best Practices
  • Narrative Structure
  • Actionable Insights

Low-Code/No-Code Automation

We're constantly looking for ways to reduce manual, repetitive tasks. Tools like Microsoft Power Automate or Zapier are making it easier for anyone, not just developers, to build simple automations. The driver is efficiency – we want to automate the boring stuff so you can do more interesting work.

  • Trigger-Action Logic

The ten Future Fluencies

Zavmo analysis

The credential is what you can do today. These are what keep you valuable.

A qualification proves you can do the job as it's defined today. These ten are what decide whether you're still the obvious person for it in five years. They're the capabilities employers are now writing into senior roles faster than people are learning them. Zavmo weaves them through whatever you study, so you come out with both: the credential and the fluency.

The highlighted ones are the Fluencies your role leans on hardest, from how Regional Integration Assistant is actually changing.

Working with AI on the job

Working with AI

Where AI is starting to help

Let's be real, regional integration can be a bit of a grind. Lots of data cleaning, chasing updates, and trying to get everyone on the same page. But here's the thing: you don't have to do it all manually anymore. We're investing in AI tools to take the tedious stuff off your plate, freeing you up for the interesting, impactful work.

Imagine spending less time on repetitive tasks and more time actually solving the tricky problems. Our AI productivity hub isn't just a buzzword; it's a collection of tools and best practices designed to make your day-to-day work as a Regional Integration Assistant genuinely more efficient. We'll help you get set up and show you how to use these to your advantage.

Automated SteerCo Deck Generation

Our AI agent can connect to Asana, Power BI, and SAP to pull the latest RAG status, budget variance, and KPIs. It then populates a standardised PowerPoint template with initial commentary and data visualisations, saving you hours of copy-pasting and formatting.

Cross-Cultural Communication Reviewer

Drafting emails to teams in different countries can be a minefield. This AI tool analyses your draft communications, flagging phrases that might be misinterpreted (e.g., too direct for Japanese stakeholders) and suggesting culturally nuanced alternatives. It's like having a global etiquette coach in your inbox.

Meeting Action Item & Summary Bot

No more frantically scribbling notes during calls. An AI assistant can join key project meetings, transcribe the conversation, and automatically generate a concise summary with a clear list of action items and owners, posting it directly to the relevant MS Teams channel. You'll just need to give it a quick check.

Early Warning Risk & Sentiment Analysis

This AI scans internal communications (like Teams channels or survey feedback) to identify recurring negative keywords or sentiment from specific regions. It's an early warning system for potential integration resistance or adoption issues, helping you flag problems to your manager before they blow up.
