This entry level qualification is designed as an introduction to animal technology. It focuses on ensuring that you recognise the importance of high standards of routine care and animal husbandry and gives an insight into the legal responsibility of animal technologists, even at the most junior levels.

You'll be introduced to ethical considerations in the use of labouratory animals for scientific procedures. The unit covers the principles of the 3Rs (Replacement, Reduction, Refinement) and the influence of cultural and societal values on ethical perspectives.

This unit provides knowledge of suitable routines and husbandry practices for maintaining and caring for labouratory animals. You'll understand the consequences of inappropriate environmental conditions and methods for identifying different animal species.

This unit equips learners with knowledge of providing appropriate nutrition and water to labouratory animals. They will understand the importance of water quality, balanced diets for various species, and different diet forms to support animal health and welfare.
