- Mastering complex project delivery, leading small project teams, effective stakeholder management for individual projects, and demonstrating strong problem-solving skills for non-routine issues. You'd be showing you can consistently deliver big projects.
You're ready to move on when
- Consistently delivering large, cross-functional projects on time and budget.
- Successfully mentoring 1-2 junior project managers.
- Proactively identifying and mitigating project-level risks without constant oversight.
- Receiving positive feedback from key stakeholders on your ability to manage project expectations and communication.

External Programme Manager (from similar industry)
Coming in with 8-10 years of programme management experienceSkills to master
- Demonstrable experience managing programmes (not just projects) with multiple interconnected streams, strong financial acumen for programme budgets, and a track record of leading and developing project teams. You'd need to show you've already done this elsewhere.
You're ready to move on when
- A portfolio of successfully delivered programmes in a comparable industry.
- Experience managing programme budgets of similar scale (£50K-£500K).
- Proven ability to lead and develop a team of project managers.
- Strong references highlighting your strategic thinking and stakeholder influence.

Consultant (with Operations Delivery specialisation)
5-8 years in a consulting firm, focused on operational transformation or programme deliverySkills to master
- Deep understanding of various delivery methodologies, strong client-facing communication and influence, experience in process optimisation, and the ability to quickly grasp new operational contexts. You'd be bringing a breadth of experience.
You're ready to move on when
- Experience leading operational transformation programmes for multiple clients.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on measurable outcomes.
- Ability to quickly build rapport and credibility with senior business leaders.
- A clear understanding of the difference between consulting and in-house delivery.
