The pathway
How you actually get there, here
How you become one varies far more by country than what one does. This is the UK route. Most people take one of these ways in; the right one depends on where you're starting from.
- 1
Senior International Client Manager (L3)
3-5 yearsSkills to master
- Mastering strategic account planning for a smaller portfolio, leading QBRs independently, handling complex escalations, and consistently exceeding NRR targets. You'll need to show you can own a client relationship end-to-end.
You're ready to move on when
- Consistently achieving NRR targets for your assigned portfolio.
- Receiving unsolicited positive feedback from senior client stakeholders.
- Successfully leading at least 3-5 complex client projects from initiation to completion.
- Being recognised internally as a go-to expert for specific client challenges or regions.
- 2
Solutions Architect / Consultant (from another company)
5-8 yearsSkills to master
- Translating technical solutions into business value, managing complex implementation projects, and building strong relationships with client technical and business leaders. You'd need to adapt those consulting skills to our specific product and post-sales context.
You're ready to move on when
- Proven experience designing and delivering complex technical solutions for enterprise clients.
- Strong ability to bridge the gap between technical teams and business stakeholders.
- Demonstrable experience in client-facing roles with a focus on value realisation.
- A clear understanding of the SaaS business model and recurring revenue.
- 3
Product Manager (with strong client-facing experience)
6-10 yearsSkills to master
- Deep understanding of product development lifecycle, market analysis, and translating user needs into features. You'd need to pivot that product-centric view to a client-centric, post-sales strategy, focusing on adoption and value.
You're ready to move on when
- Experience managing a product or feature set from conception to launch.
- Strong track record of gathering and acting on customer feedback.
- Excellent communication skills, especially in presenting product roadmaps and value propositions.
- A desire to shift focus from 'building' to 'enabling client success' with existing products.
