The pathway
How you actually get there, here
How you become one varies far more by country than what one does. This is the UK route. Most people take one of these ways in; the right one depends on where you're starting from.

- Consistently hitting individual targets, taking initiative on the floor, informally guiding new hires, showing strong adherence to safety and process.
You're ready to move on when
- You're the person everyone goes to for answers when the supervisor isn't around.
- You consistently exceed your individual picking/packing targets.
- You've actively helped train at least 2-3 new associates.
- You proactively identify and report issues, not just react to them.
- 2
From Team Lead in another Operations environment
2-3 years as a team lead in a manufacturing, retail, or logistics settingSkills to master
- Experience managing small teams, understanding of operational KPIs, familiarity with WMS/ERP systems, strong problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment.
You're ready to move on when
- You can confidently talk about how you've motivated and managed a small team to hit targets.
- You've dealt with common operational challenges like staffing shortages or equipment breakdowns.
- You're familiar with the basic tech stack we use (WMS, ERP, etc.).
- You can quickly adapt to new products and warehouse layouts.
