- Mastering the ownership of an entire strategic project portfolio for a major business unit, demonstrating significant P&L impact, and consistently aligning programmes to enterprise strategy. You'd need to show you can manage a large team of managers and directors.
You're ready to move on when
- Consistent delivery of >£5M in documented cost savings or revenue uplift annually from your portfolio.
- Strong track record of presenting to and influencing C-suite and Board members on transformation strategy.
- Successful development and retention of a high-performing team of 25-100+ individuals.
- Recognised as a thought leader internally and externally on transformation within your domain.

Partner / Principal, External Management Consulting Firm
5-10 years as Partner/PrincipalSkills to master
- Leading multi-million-pound client engagements, developing new business, managing large client relationships at the C-suite level, and shaping transformation strategies for diverse organisations. You'd need to prove you can translate that external experience into internal impact.
You're ready to move on when
- Proven ability to secure and deliver £5M+ consulting engagements with demonstrable client impact.
- Extensive experience advising Fortune 500/FTSE 100 C-suite executives on strategic transformation.
- Strong network and reputation within the consulting industry for thought leadership and delivery excellence.
- Demonstrated ability to build and lead large, cross-functional client teams.

Chief Operating Officer (COO) / Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) in a smaller enterprise
5-7 years in COO/CSO roleSkills to master
- Full P&L ownership, end-to-end operational leadership, defining and executing corporate strategy, and managing a diverse executive team. This path shows you can run a business, not just advise it.
You're ready to move on when
- Direct P&L accountability for a business unit or entire company (e.g., £50M+ revenue).
- Demonstrable track record of driving significant operational improvements and strategic growth.
- Experience managing a diverse executive team and reporting to a Board of Directors.
- Strong understanding of all functional areas of a business (Finance, HR, IT, Sales, Marketing, Operations).
