The pathway
How you actually get there, here
How you become one varies far more by country than what one does. This is the UK route. Most people take one of these ways in; the right one depends on where you're starting from.

You're ready to move on when
- Consistently delivering assigned sourcing projects on time and within budget.
- Proactively identifying issues and proposing solutions, not just escalating problems.
- Demonstrating strong analytical skills, especially in spend analysis and basic TCO modelling.
- Receiving positive feedback from internal stakeholders and suppliers on your communication and collaboration.
- 2
From a Sourcing/Procurement role in another industry

- Experience managing end-to-end RFx processes for strategic categories.
- Strong references highlighting your negotiation skills and stakeholder management capabilities.

- 3
From Management Consulting (focused on Supply Chain/Procurement)
3-5 years post-MBA or 5-7 years with relevant undergraduate experienceSkills to master

You're ready to move on when
- Experience leading procurement transformation projects or cost reduction initiatives for clients.
- Ability to quickly grasp new industry contexts and apply structured problem-solving.
