The pathway
How you actually get there, here
How you become one varies far more by country than what one does. This is the UK route. Most people take one of these ways in; the right one depends on where you're starting from.

- Consistently exceeding individual quota, mentoring junior AEs, leading complex multi-stakeholder deals, and demonstrating strong pipeline management.
You're ready to move on when
- Regularly sought out by peers for advice on deal strategy or objection handling.
- Consistently hitting 120%+ of quota for several consecutive quarters.
- Proactively taking on leadership roles in internal projects or initiatives.
- Demonstrating a genuine passion for coaching and developing others.
- 2
Principal / Strategic Account Executive (L4)
2-4 years as a Principal AESkills to master
- Managing a small portfolio of the company's largest, most strategic accounts, focusing on 'land and expand' strategies, and influencing cross-functional teams.
You're ready to move on when
- Proven ability to manage multi-million pound accounts and drive significant expansion.
- Recognised internally as a subject matter expert in specific market segments or complex deal types.
- Strong ability to influence without direct authority across various departments.
- A desire to shape strategy and process, not just execute it.
